The 2% Solution

Thirty-one questions men actually ask about the 15/5/10 daily practice, habits, motivation, accountability and training with no time. New here? Start with the full 2% Solution guide.
The practice itself
- Is 30 minutes really enough?
- Enough to build the habit, and enough to move the needle on energy and mood. Fat loss and strength come from the four behaviours on the dad bod page as well.
- Do I have to do it all at once?
- No. Three blocks in a day count as much as one.
- What if I only have 10 minutes?
- Do 10. Keeping the chain alive matters more than the total.
- Where can I hear it?
- Episode 1 is The Ripple Effect of Devoting 2% of Your Day to Yourself. Episode 62 is This Daily 30 Minute Habit Will Change Your Life.
Building a habit that sticks
- What is a good first habit to choose?
- Choose something small and manageable that fits your current life. If your goal is movement, a walk or a short session of bodyweight exercises is a place to start.
- Should I aim for a specific number of days?
- Do not make a fixed number of days the focus. Put your attention on regular action and progress rather than perfection.
- Do I need an accountability partner?
- An accountability partner can help you stay committed, but self-accountability matters too. Own your goals and actions, and use support to reinforce that commitment.
How long a habit takes
- Is 66 days a rule?
- No. It is a median, and the study's own range is wide.
- Does exercise take longer than food habits?
- Often, since it asks more of you.
- What if I miss a day?
- Get back to it the next day. Never miss two in a row.
Habit stacking
- How many habits can I stack?
- Start with one, then add another after two weeks.
- What if my anchor changes?
- Pick a new one and restart the count.
- Is this the same as the 2% Solution?
- It is how you deliver it: small blocks, each tied to a daily anchor.
Restarting after a miss
- Should I double up to catch up?
- No. That is how people get hurt and quit again.
- How long until it feels normal?
- See how long it takes to form a habit.
- Should I tell someone?
- Yes, it helps with accountability.
Starting and quitting
- Does quitting mean I have no willpower?
- No. You may be taking on more intensity or time commitment than you can sustain. Choose movement you enjoy rather than treating another abandoned routine as proof that you're weak.
- Do I need a harder routine to stay committed?
- A harder routine may add to the overwhelm. Start with a small, sustainable shift instead of trying to fit as much exercise as possible into your downtime.
- What if I can't make it to the gym?
- Missing the gym doesn't mean you can't move your body with purpose. Look for movement you enjoy that fits your work and family commitments.
Motivation
- Do I need to feel motivated before I exercise?
- No. You won't always feel motivated, but you can still show up for a simple, achievable activity like a walk.
- What if I don't enjoy my workouts?
- Choose exercise you enjoy rather than forcing yourself into someone else's preferred activity. Walking, a class or a sport are options.
- What if I keep failing to follow through?
- Keep your goal achievable and use encouraging self-talk instead of guilt. If following through remains a struggle, seek accountability from a coach.
Accountability
- Do I need a coach to stay accountable?
- A coach is one option, but an accountability partner or supportive community can also help. Start by sharing your goals, commitments, and the support you need.
- How do I build motivation?
- Take small actions towards your goals and celebrate small wins. Recognising those wins can help build confidence and motivation.
- What should I focus on after a setback?
- Progress, not perfection. Lean on your accountability support and keep taking small actions towards your goals.
Setting goals
- What if I don't know what I want?
- Start by asking what you want and why each answer matters to you. Get clear on those answers before jumping into how you'll make it happen.
- What does SMART stand for?
- Specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-bound. Use those criteria to turn a broad ambition into a clear goal.
- What if my goal feels overwhelming?
- Break it into small, achievable steps instead of taking on too much at once. Recognise your progress and celebrate small wins rather than waiting for the finish line.
Training with no time
- Is 10 minutes of exercise worth doing?
- Yes. Use the 10 minutes you have. A short session you repeat is more useful than an hour-long plan you keep postponing.
- Do I need a gym for a short workout?
- No. A brisk walk, bodyweight exercises or a short yoga session all count as purposeful movement.
- Do I have to complete 15/5/10 all at once?
- No. You can split movement, stillness and reading across the day. Start with the block you can protect and build from there.
